# The Thread

## The Through-Line
Every community has the resources it needs. What it lacks is the logistics to make them visible. Thirty years watching this pattern repeat across contexts that look nothing alike — a military unit in 1995, nightclub operations in Reno, food deserts, refugee camps in Kenya, veteran transition pipelines, community resilience networks in Colorado. Same problems, different ZIP codes. The solutions exist. The people exist. The gap is always the same: no one has built the infrastructure that helps them find each other.

## Where I Found It
- **The arms room.** A 1995 parachuting accident ended my career as an Influence Specialist in Special Operations. Reassigned to the arms room of my own battalion, I could see everything — how coordination failures killed readiness, how the same influence frameworks were the missing ingredient in keeping a unit functional. The problem wasn't capability. It was routing.
- **The nightclub business.** Built bars in Reno; got good at aligning what the business needed with what the community wanted, and at building systems so others could run things without me. The operations that succeeded were the ones where the infrastructure didn't depend on any single person.
- **The food desert.** My bars sat in a neighborhood that couldn't access fresh food. The food existed, the people existed — what was missing was the coordination layer.
- **Kenya.** Community work in the Kakuma refugee camp region. Same infrastructure gap. Extraordinary capability, no mechanism to make assets visible or connectable at scale.
- **The veteran pipeline.** Transition assistance covers the resume, not the silence after. The word-of-mouth network thinned after 2001; COVID finished it. The infrastructure gap, again.

## The Actual Insight
Influence operations and community coordination are the same discipline. You shape behavior at scale by changing the information environment. The military figured it out for combat readiness; the same framework applies to food security, veteran transition, regenerative agriculture adoption, and refugee camp operations. The problems are structurally identical. The solutions are transferable. I followed the logistics gap, not the subject matter. The gap is always the same. So is the fix. That's the thread.
